About Us

Stephen Leafloor has not only been a social worker for over 20 years with a Masters Degree in this field, but he also completed his Masters Thesis on the culture of Hiphop. He has been an active participant in Hiphop since 1981 and founded Canada’s oldest and most prestigious Bboy crew, (Breakdancing crew).  “The Canadian Floor Masters”  have opened for James Brown, Rapper IceT and Blackeyed Peas and performed numerous times at Canada’s National Arts Center and in a variety of music videos.. Stephen brings together a clear understanding of a culture that is of interest to youth around the world, blending it with an acute knowledge of the issues and challenges youth face today.

Engaging youth in areas they are interested in allows BluePrintForLife to reach out to a wide range of young people - including youth at risk, aboriginal youth, and those from other cultures.  BluePrintForLife brings together teams of highly respected and talented young adults to engage youth in physical and educational workshops. We challenge youth in a variety of ways and rethink the media’s portrayal of HipHop, focusing on the positive element’s that are often overlooked.

BluePrintForLife prides itself in creating individual programs that focus on a respect and celebration of local culture. By exploring creative ways that these elements can be integrated into a local voice for youth through Hiphop, we empower youth to find their own inner creative voice in the context of pride and respect for who they are and where they come from. BluePrintForLife is currently planning a number of projects outside of North America focusing on community development with youth. As well we are currently planning a number of projects with various aboriginal communities across Canada.

Hiphop provides a wonderful toolkit of survival techniques for youth in situations where resources and programs for youth may be scarce. We believe that HipHop may well be the greatest tool that youth around the world have as a voice for personal and social change, but that guidance is needed to combat the negative imagery often portrayed in music videos.
